Dr Richard Hodgkinson,

University of Sheffield is a National Fellowships in Fluid Dynamics fellow, studying how extensional flows affect apparent shear viscosity. Richard feels, noting the recent newsletter article on orthogonal superposition, that rheology should be progressed towards these complex superposed straining flows: a) the BSR is the ideal progressive platform for this, he would organise e.g. a BSR meeting on the topic (complimenting a to-be-created UKFN sub-SIG); b) in general, complex experiments need bespoke instrumentation - with his e.g. electronics/engineering background he is well placed to coordinate/catalyse such discussions towards community benefits; and c) as a ECR in the NFFDy cohort, advocate/represent the BSR and the importance of rheology in the wider ECR community.
